THE APNA 990 STORY

HISTORY

Radio Apna’s holding company Apna Networks Limited was incorporated in 2003. In the span of 12 months, Radio Apna made its presence felt in Auckland and became the first Indian radio station to operate 24 hours 7 days a week. Resources were poured into shipping the highest quality studio and transmission equipment. The latest in transmitters, mixers and coders were sourced from globally renowned suppliers based in the United States and Canada. No cost was spared in ensuring that Radio Apna 990 AM set the standards for quality of broadcast and coverage in each of its local markets.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Since launching the first 24 hour Hindi Radio station in New Zealand in 2003, Radio Apna has gone from strength to strength. Today, becoming a house hold name, Apna’s channel strength can also be gauged from the total daily text messages on 299’s platform, which tallies over 2000 messages per day. In January 2009 the station collected around $NZ200000.00 through its 54 hour Radiothon for the flood affected victims in Fiji. Evidently, Radio Apna is also a favourite with advertisers and has pulled crowds during its Captain Zorro promotions where shoppers had to be turned away due to an overwhelming response.

In August 2010, our commitment towards the affected flood vistims in Pakistan raised an incredible $NZ350000.00 which is the biggest collection by any Radio around the country.

VISION

Radio plays a vital part in the everyday lives of the people. In some undeniable ways it gives motivation, guidance, entertainment and energy and becomes part of peoples live. In other ways it makes a dull day cheerful and accompanies the listeners journey with all sorts of mood and mindset. We realise that there is a need to cater for a wider spectrum of listeners taking into account the diverse issues relating to them as well as promoting cross culture. To realise this dream, emerged the driving brand "Apna 990 AM". We envisage to take radio beyond the traditional means and spread its reach to the entire globe, making it more interactive and easily accessible, when and how people want to listen to it through the means on air broadcasting and our online platform. Our identity and specialty is in showcasing a blend of contemporary, local, international hits with popular Bollywood and Indi-pop music. Our pride has been in recruiting and handpicking the best in show business with creative and experienced RJs for bringing the best programming and events to enhance entertainment and (info)tainment to our valued listeners than ever before. Today we are Auckland’s favorite radio station and our vision is to retain our status and achieve greatness in bringing quality news, music, entertainment, events and all that is expected from us. And we will continue to bring unity and betterment to the community. After all we are your "Apna".

Sun, September 5, 2010 1:41 pm I called from America and arranged with ASB bank to transfer $2,000 from my NZ account to the above fund at BNZ early this week. I trust you have received it by now. I meant to call Saiyaz but few times I called I did not get through. Prior to sending the money I called and spoke to Dharmend as Shaiyaz was away. Our long standing relationship with you on an exclusive basis for the coverage of NZ Fiji football matches has meant we have ensured to maintain the agreement we made with Mr. Shah to support his cause when he first stood up to support our soccer. It was done for the right reasons and that is why I personally believe you have achieved success. Ours was to bring people to the game and spread the word of football and yours was to spread to as many as it could. Today you have the largest audience to do this.
